Good Morning Senior Infants. Hope you are all staying indoors today and keeping safe and warm.

It’s World Book Day on this snowy, cold first day of March. Even though we are not at school you can still get into the spirit of World Book Day at home. Reading has numerous  benefits and evidence suggests that children who read for enjoyment every day develop a broader vocabulary, have increased general knowledge and a better understanding of other cultures. It also suggests that reading for pleasure is more likely to determine whether a child does well at school than their social or economic background.

So here’s a few ideas for World Book Day:

  1. Create a special place for you to read today maybe in front of the fire with lots of cushions and snuggly blankets, you could even make a reading den!
  2. Re-tell your favourite and well known stories through play. Maybe set up a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, go on a Bear Hunt, or bake a Gingerbread Man.
  3. Dress up and become your favourite book character. Maybe you could be the Big Bad Wolf or the elf for the shoemaker.
  4. Make your own fiction book today all about your adventures in the snow.

Whatever you decide to do have a fun filled day and I can’t wait to hear all about your day on Monday.

Enjoy and stay safe!
