Our Lady of Good Counsel GNS

Ferrybank, Waterford

We had great fun today celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day. All the girls made a great effort to dress up in their colours for the day. We started with a parade up to Madonna House and the Little Sisters of the Poor where the girls sang and danced. When we arrived back to school we had a Céilí Mór with all the students and teachers. The girls did a wonderful job and had lots of fun, despite the weather. Well done to everyone and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

This month we have been learning all about food. We read the story Handa’s Surprise and we tasted some of the fruits from the story. Some of the girls had never tasted passion fruit, mango or avocado so there was great excitement. Out of the 6 fruits we tasted, most people preferred the pineapple.
In class we have also been playing in our restaurant and kitchen areas, cooking and serving food to customers.

The Safer Internet Competition winners were:

Sarah – Junior Infants

Pausha – Senior Infants

Evania – First Class

Emmie – 2nd Class

Elizabeth – 3rd Class

Serah Elin – 4th Class

Luz – 5th Class

Jiya – 6th Class

Well done to the winners, and everyone that entered.

Dear Parents, Guardians, Pupils, and Friends of the School,

I hope this update finds you all well. Unfortunately, the poor weather continues to hinder any outdoor activity at the moment but hopefully we are not too far away from brighter evenings and more favourable weather.

It was wonderful to welcome so many of you to our Parent–Teacher meetings in late January. Thank you for taking the time to meet with your daughter’s teacher — we hope you found the visit helpful and enjoyable.

Safer Internet Day
A sincere thank you to Mrs. Ryan, who organised lessons and a poster competition to mark Safer Internet Day, which took place last week. The girls participated in a range of activities focused on staying safe while using technology and the internet. Winners of the Safer Internet Day poster competition for each class will be announced by Mrs. Ryan after the Mid-Term break.

Lent 2026

Today we, Catholics and Christians the world over, will mark the beginning of  Lent, with Ash Wednesday starting the 40 days preparation towards Easter. The Lenten Season is one of the most holy and important periods in the Christian calendar. Here are the important days to observe during the season of Lent: Ash Wednesday February 18th, Palm Sunday March 29th,  Maundy Thursday April 2nd, Good Friday April 3rd, Holy Saturday April 4th and Easter Sunday April 5th. This marks a season of reflection, prayer, fasting and almsgiving. May this season of Lent bring clarity, strength and extra kindness into all our lives. Ms. Kelly

We marked the beginning of Lent today with a special assembly led by 3rd Class. They did a fantastic job explaining what Lent is all about and shared some thoughtful ideas on what they hope to give up or improve during this time. Pupils from 2nd and 6th Class also attended 10am Mass at the Church to receive ashes for Ash Wednesday.

Thanks to The Wellbeing Warriors and Mrs Shanahan for their wonderful special assembly on Internet Safety. The message was very clear: Think before you share, check it’s for real, protect your stuff and respect each other.
