Nuacht Rang a Trí

On May 29th we had our school tour in Castlecomer Discovery Park. The girls did the tree top walk and orienteering.

This week, on Tuesday we had our dancing display and our Green schools presentation, our topic was ‘Food Waste’ and how to avoid it.

On Thursday we had mass in the church at ten in the morning celebrating the World Meeting of Families with Fr. Dempsey explaining the meaning of the icon which was on display in the church.

Gaeilge: Bhíomar ag foghlaim tús an scéal – ‘Ag Siopaóireacht sa Chathair’. Bhíomar ag labhairt faoi cúrsaí siopadóireachta agus na siopaí éagsúla.

English: Third Class listened to the story ‘The Stranger’ by Chris Van Allsburg. We used our questioning and visualisation comprehension strategies while reading the story.

Reminder: next week, 3rd Class School Tour, 29th May Tuesday, gathering at the school for 8.45am.

We had our final session of yoga on Monday. Third class have really enjoyed the sessions with Rachel and loved bringing in their blankets and learning about breathing, stretching, maintaining balance and the various poses: child’s, cobblers, downward dog, plank, rocket, frog squat, cobra and the tree pose.

On Thursdays, third class have been practicing their camogie skills as part of PE.

Art: We have been looking at the work of artist Andy Warhol. Third class then made drawings based on his work. The children chose their own design and their choice of colour. They divided the page into 4 sections and picked four colours to create their picture.

          

Gaeilge: Bhíomar ag foghlaim an Scéal – Teilifís ‘The Simpsons’. Bhíomar ag caint agus ag labhairt faoi cúrsaí teilifíse sa bhaile.

English: We have finished our novel ‘The Witches’ by Roal Dahl and we are currently finishing off our ‘Witches’ booklets.

On Monday we had our first session of Yoga and this will continue for the next five Mondays. We also welcomed a new girl into our class; Sidra.

On Tuesday, we had Green schools energy workshop presented by Hans. 3rd Class got involved with many energy experiments and learned about how energy can be transferred from one object to another.

Gaeilge: Tá an caint bunaithe ar an téama ‘Teilifís’. We are talking about our favourite T.V. programmes and the different types of programmes.

Maths: We went on a 2D shape hunt inside and outside the school. We recognised real life 2D shapes out in the school yard. We also looked at tessellation on the floors, walls and ceiling of the school.

English: We are ‘Making Connections’ and coming near the end of ‘The Witches’ novel.

We are looking forward to a busy ‘Active Week’ next week.

Art: Last week we created St. Patrick’s Day Head bands for our school parade.

Fire Talk: we received a talk from the fireman last Thursday. The girls became fire deputies and had to complete a fire safety check at home with their family.

Peace Proms: we enjoyed the concert on Sunday 18th of March. The girls performed and represented the school very well.

English: We are ‘Making Connections’ while reading. We are also working on our ‘Witches’ novel booklet.

Maths: Over the last two weeks we have been exploring the topic of ‘Weight’. We measured items in the classroom using a weighing scales and a weighing balance. We compared the items to a quarter/half/three quarters and a full kg. In our Maths stations on Wednesday we estimated then measured, if items were greater then, less than or the about the same as a kg.

World Book Day

I hope everyone in 3rd is staying safe and warm. Today is World Book Day where we were meant to dress up as our favourite characters from one of our favourite books. Why not dress up anyway and take a picture.
