Alice in Wonderland!!
February 7, 2018
After completing “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll together, the Sixth Class girls have produced amazing artwork for some of the most infamous scenes from the book.
Here’s a sneak peak of some of dioramas that are being worked on at the moment:

“You’re mad, bonkers, completely off your head. But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.” Alice

Happy Christmas
December 22, 2017
Happy Christmas to all of you and many good wishes for the New Year.
Party Surprise – The teacher was greeted with a ‘bang’ today when 6th class planned a surprise party! Thank you all for your cards, gifts and good wishes. What a super class, I will miss their cheer in the New Year. This was followed by some Christmas Karaoke madness!

Christmas Play – The whole school performed excellently in The Little Sisters of the Poor on Tuesday and in our Church on Thursday. Well done to 6th class for their acting. All the rehearsals were well worth it. And the volume and singing from everyone was super. A great way to finish at Christmas.

History – The girls have been learning about the ancient civilisation of ‘The Aztecs’. Some interesting facts are: They lived in the City of Tenochtitlan, which is just outside present day Mexico city. They would sacrifice a person each day, usually an enemy or a slave, as they believed that the sun died at the end of each day and needed human blood in order to rise again the next day! Thankfully this practise is no longer carried on! Punishment for children in school, was to be pricked by a cactus plant! Something the girls are happy that their own teacher doesn’t do!
Music/Drama – Final rehearsals this week are going well and costumes are looking good.
Art – We completed our Art Construction projects this week. They turned out great. Well done to the girls for excellent team work and cooperation.
PE – This week was our last week of Yoga. The girls thoroughly enjoyed each Thursday and hopefully they will use some of the techniques learned in the own lives. Thanks to Rachel, their instructor, for her leadership. Namaste!

Maths – We have moved on to 2-D shapes. The girls have been studying some new language and developing patterns. Our 2-D shape and space dictionary is very useful for these lessons. We have learned about dominoes, trominoes, tetrominoes, pentominoes, and hexominoes. Ask the girls to see if they can remember!
Art – Our Art construction projects are starting to take shape. We started with a roll of wire and after some hard work created a reindeer, a Christmas tree, a gingerbread house, a snowman and a robin. The papier machee stage is complete. Next week, we will start to paint and decorate them. See photos below.
Science – Here is the experiment from last week on how to make ice-cream, demonstrating the change of state, from liquid to solid and solid to liquid.
Equipment
Small zip lock bag
Large zip lock bag
A cup of milk
A cup of cream
Half a cup of sugar
A few drops of vanilla
Lots of ice cubes
A cup of salt
Method
1) Pour the milk and cream into the small zip lock bag, as well as the sugar and vanilla, and close it.
2) Add lots of ice cubes to the large zip lock bag. Following this, place the small zip lock bag inside the large one.
3) Pour the salt on the ice in the large bag and seal it.
4) Shake the bags around for 10 minutes.
5) After this place the bags in the freezer for an hour or so to finish the experiment off.
Predictions
I wasn’t sure what was going to happen, I presumed it would stay liquid.
Results
The formula turned thicker and semi solid after 10 minutes. It turned solid in the freezer to make ice-cream.
Why did this happen?
The salt made the temperature of ice lower and it got really cold. This caused the ice-cream liquid mixture to start to solidify. By placing it in the freezer, it turned fully solid.
This experiment showed the change of states of matter: milk/cream mixture (liquid) to ice-cream (solid); ice cubes (solid) to water (liquid).
