Senior Infants Blog
Busy September for Senior Infants :)
In Aistear we have been learning all about the Doctor’s Surgery. This is some of the language we have been learning and using through play.

The girls really enjoyed dressing up as the patients, nurses, doctors and receptionists.

We created doctor’s kits and white coats in Arts and Crafts.

We created the doctors and nurses utensils such as; stethoscopes, syringes, thermometers etc from playdough.

The small world group, built a hospital from Lego and played out different scenes with the ambulance and dolls.

We went on a nature walk around the school, and collected Autumn leaves. We made leaf rubbings with oil pastels and glued them on to our squirrels.

Look at the hedgehogs we made in SESE. We wrote down some interesting facts we learned about the hedgehog. We molded hedgehogs from clay in Art.
Springtime Aistear!!
Springtime has taken over our class in Senior Infants. We are enjoying lots of stations that are teaching us all about Spring and in particular the Spring Garden!!
In our Drama station, each group sets up their own Garden Centre. They enjoy arranging and looking after the plants.Customers are invited in to browse and buy plants if they so wish.
In our Writing Station, girls are busy making signs that show the opening times for their Garden Centre. All the signs look so welcoming!!
In our Art Station, the girls are making beautiful egg carton daffodils which we look forward to displaying in our corridor!
In our Reading Station, the girls are having so much fun playing word bingo to showy all the “Spring-y” words they have been using and reading!!It’s very competitive but exciting!!
At our Playdough Area, the girls used all their rolling, cutting and shaping skills to produce lovely colourful Spring Garden!!

Senior Infant Update!
Last Thursday, the girls enjoyed World Book Day. They just loved dressing up as their favourite characters, showing and telling us about their favourite books, making bookmarks and having our books and blaas! In the afternoon we had had the wonderful experience of listening to stories in the Czech language and in Portugese.

We have finished our Aistear theme of Weddings but this week our Aistear is all about St Patrick who we have been learning about in History. We are looking at all know and all we achieve in recycling.
We are looking forward to our Ceili Mor in the morning and our Annual St.Patrick’s Day Parade taking place at 1.45pm on Friday!!
Fun in Senior Infants!
Senior Infants were making butter on Friday with Miss Kirwan. Marbles were put in a jar and double cream added to it.With the lid tightly secured, the Senior Infants took turns shaking with all their might. The result was butter which they strained and spread on cream crackers! It was YUM,YUM,YUM!

The New Senior Infants
This year’s Senior Infants are already proving to be a hardworking bunch. The first morning they came in with big smiles for their new teacher. They are pros at school life at this stage and were not long getting busy.
They have been great at putting all their work from last year to good use. We have displays of leaf rubbing from leaves we collected around the school, they made lovely leaf collages and even leaf monsters!!
At the moment, they are producing their own book “All About Me” which they love making and talking about.
Looking forward to a fun and busy Year!!
Time to say Farewell
Today is a day of mixed emotions in Senior Infants. I will be saying goodbye to my amazing, hard working, special class that I have had the privilege of teaching for two years. We’ve had so many fun times together and made some great memories. A special thanks to all the Mums and Dads and Grannys and Grandads who have been so supportive for the past two years. Have a lovely summer and a good rest.

Tips for surviving the summer holidays!
Tips for surviving the summer holidays
• Set aside at least 15 minutes each day for reading.
• To keep writing skills fresh, buy children a notebook or copy and let them decorate the cover. Then tell them it’s their summer diary and have them write down three things that happen each day.
• To keep up maths skills, get books of number puzzles. Revision of Mental Maths book would be beneficial also. Have a clock on display and ask children the time.
• Check out your local centres for play or sports.
• Make sure young people have some unstructured chill-out time; they need it as much as adults.
• Be a tourist where you live; plan your research at the library. Learn more about where you live, then go exploring on foot and see what you can discover.
• Set the children a challenge – decide on a set amount of money, say €2 each, and let the children plan a day out, without spending any more than is budgeted. And it will teach them some money management skills as well as having fun.
