Senior Infants Blog

Out of this World

Over the past few weeks, Senior Infants have been learning about the sun, the moon and the stars.
We have made sun and moon mobiles and followed a video online to draw some awesome astronauts. The girls really enjoyed doing splatter painting to create their galaxies.

Friendship and Wellbeing Week

The girls had great fun last week doing wonderful activities for Friendship and Wellbeing week. Each day they did a new activity like mindfulness colouring, making Friendship bracelets and dressing up in bright colours.

In Aistear, the girls were working on the theme of shopping. They were building shops, role playing at the shop, taking a trip to the jewellery shop for those lovely friendship bracelets and best of all, taking a trip to the bakery to make bread and cakes. We enjoyed this day best of all.

April Showers bring May Flowers

We’ve had a lovely return to school after the Easter holidays and have returned to our first shoots showing.
Each girl planted a different type of flower before the holidays and will now have to water and mind their plants to help them to grow.

Lá Fhéile Padráig

The girls had a great time learning all about St. Patrick and St. Patrick’s Day. Senior Infants led a special assembly for the school on it and did a wonderful job. They really enjoyed engineering their floats to move for our own milk bottle float parade. They enjoyed making flags and wearing badges, especially on our Colours Day.

Food Glorious Food

Since returning after the holidays, Senior Infants have been learning all about food. This week the girls got to prepare some food in the school kitchen.
They made a healthy fruit salad using apples, grapes, oranges, melon, strawberries and bananas. They had great fun washing, peeling and cutting the fruit and enjoyed eating it even more.

Off to the Post Office

The girls in Senior Infants were very busy this week, working in the post office. They were writing letters and posting them in our post class post boxes. The girls loved writing and sending letters to their friends.

We also had a wonderful opportunity to practice our directions this week by playing with Beebots. This is part of the STEM work the girls are doing in school, learning to use different types of technology. They had great fun programming them to move in different ways.

Playing with our Beebots.
The girls were able to design their own postboxes.

☀️Outdoor Learning☀️

Making the most of the lovely weather, Senior Infants have been doing some fun revision activities outside. We started off this morning on a sound hunt, looking for things beginning with certain sounds.

Then we searched for Tricky Words around the school. We had to write down the word next to the correct number. We were practicing our number and our word recognition!

We have been having fun practicing number races outdoors. The girls flip over a number card, run up to the cone and build the number using the correct amount of cubes. They run back and then it is the next girl’s turn. Not only are we practicing to recognize and count number, but each group works as a team, cheering on each player.
