Celebrating Intercultural Week, Friendship Week and St. Patrick’s Day☘️

We have had quite a busy week here in Junior Infants. We have been learning all about the restaurant in Aistear. We have been exploring different weights at our maths stations using a balance with Ms Ryan and spatial awareness with Ms Fogarty.

Bímíd ag labhairt, ag canadh, ag spraoi, agus ag obair trí mheán na Gaeilge gach lá i rith Seachtain na Gaeilge.

On Monday we created a friendship puzzle and drew what makes a good friend. On Thursday Ms Kelly organised for Anna-Marie in 6th class to come to our classroom to read us a story in Polish. Annabelle read us the translation in English. It was a lovely story about a pilot and we really enjoyed it.

After big lunch on Thursday we had a big surprise! We must say a big Thank You to Mrs Hardiman as we had so much fun at Gymboree. 🙂

Today we took part in the school parade. We sang our ‘Lá le Pádraig’ song and marched showing off all our green outfits. A big thank you to the mams and dads for putting so much effort into getting the girls ready this morning.

I hope you all have a lovely St Patrick’s Day.☘️

📚World Book Day📚

We had a wonderful World Book Day! Thank you to all the parents for helping the juniors transform into their favourite book characters, it made the day so special. We drew a pictures of our favourite books and looked at the books the girls had brought in.

• Go on a nature walk and see what birds you can find
• Play board games and jigsaws
• Look for items around the house that begin with the ‘j’ sound.
• Go over this weeks ‘j’ cvc words and revise previous weeks.

🐸Springing into Action🐸

We are learning about the life-cycle of the frog and we created our own Funky Frogs!

We explored mixing colours to create these beautiful butterflies.

We are continuing our Aistear theme of The Animals.

The girls are buying and selling animals at the pet shop. We had to call the vet as Little Chick was feeling unwell. She’s much better now thanks to our super vet on call.

Concentrating at this station to copy and make the animals.

Using a lot of language during this game to find the correct animals for our farms.

Moulding animals in our play-dough section.

Constructing stables, farm sheds, pens, gates…etc out of lego.

Sorting the animals into the correct areas in the small world.

🥞Pancake Tuesday🥞

Today we learned how to make scrumptious pancakes in Junior Infants !🥞 We cracked eggs into the flour and mixed in milk with Ms Walsh. Whilst the pancakes were cooking we said our pancake rhyme

Mix a pancake,
Stir a pancake,
Pop it in the pan.

Fry a pancake,
Toss a pancake,
Catch it if you can!’

We chose our own toppings of strawberries and bananas with Ms Irish.

We sequenced how to make pancakes:

During story-time we read

🌸Spring🌸

We are learning all about Spring which links with our Aistear theme- Animals. We have been learning how to care for sick animals in the Vets and also creating animals and their homes in our construction, creative and playdough areas.

We are preparing for Valentine’s Day by painting Wassily Kandinsky inspired hearts. We made different shades of pink by mixing white with red. We made lovely lilac shades by mixing white with purple.

Our classroom crocuses have bloomed and we painted beautiful flowers for spring.

We have been learning about static electricity and magnets in science. The static electricity really did make our hair stand on end!!

🏃The 10 at 10!🏃

Exercising our bodies as well as our minds is important. We are taking part in the 10 at 10, whereby we do 10 minutes of exercise around 10 o’clock. You can take part too on  https://rtejr.rte.ie/10at10/
