Some of the girls are going through security.

The steward is calling out the flight number and opening the gate for passengers to board the plane.

Construction Area: Constructing the train track and train station. Waterford station to Houston station Dublin.

🍽️The Restaurant Aistear🍽️
The girls really enjoyed the Aistear theme of The Restaurant.🍽️
The construction group designed and built a restaurant from lego. They had to plan their building, where they would like their seating area, reception, toilets, storage, kitchen and washing up area.

In the Small World area, the girls acted out different scenes that would occur in a restaurant.

In the Playdough area, the girls were busy making fairy cakes and baking them in the oven.

In the Socio-Dramatic Area, one group cooked meals, whilst waiters served customers in the restaurant. The waiters laid out the tables with cutlery, crockery and gave the customers menus. The waiters wrote down what was ordered and the customers were very polite using their “Please and Thank you”whilst receiving their tasty food.

The kitchen chefs gave any dirty dishes to the washing up area to clean, dry and sort.

🔬Experimenting with Materials in Science🔬
Our little scientists were experimenting with the properties of materials last week and this week.
Ms Walsh passed around gloves, a cloth, cardboard, tinfoil, a plastic bag and a piece of kitchen roll. We discussed how they felt. Is it flexible/rigid, soft/hard, shiny/dull?
We discussed what the word waterproof means. If a material is waterproof, water cannot pass through it.
Through the use of a bar graph, each child collected data on how many children thought tissue, plastic, kitchen roll, cardboard, fabric and rubber were waterproof.

In pairs the girls tested the materials in a big basin of water.

They then recorded their results on a chart.
We discussed what material would be best to make a coat for our class puppet Bosco, to keep him dry in the rain. The girls designed beautiful coats and we decided on rubber!

We even sprinkled water on him to test out our raincoat creation. Thanks to our scientists he did not get wet!
📚First Class Trip to the Library📚
We must say a big Thank You to all the parents that walked with their daughters up to the Ferrybank library last Friday. The girls were so well behaved and having their parents there made it such a special day for them. Ms Walsh read the girls a story about ‘Sofia the First’ and Helen read the girls a lovely story called ‘Handa’s Surprise’. Helen even had puppets to help the girls act out the story.
There is story time every Saturday in the library at 11am. It would be a lovely way for the girls to become familiar with the library, develop a love of reading and to meet their peers outside of school.

☕The Restaurant and a trip to Taste Buds☕
We are learning all about the restaurant in Aistear.
To the girls surprise this morning, we went on a class trip over to Taste Buds for a lovely hot chocolate with marshmallows.☕
We asked the owner some questions we had prepared.
How many years have you worked in a restaurant? 5 years
How do you prepare for the customers in the morning? I write up a menu and check to make sure I have all the correct ingredients. If we have scrambled eggs on the breakfast menu, I need to have eggs in my kitchen!
What is your favourite meal to make? My favourite meal to make is breakfast.

🐰Eggtastic Day🐰
The Easter Bunny came early in Junior Infants! 🐰
We used our spatial awareness language- under, over, between, beside, beneath to find some glittery Easter eggs and treats on our Easter Egg Hunt.
We were given maps of the top yard in groups and we worked together with Ms Kelly, Ms Irish and Ms Walsh to find the eggs.

🐣Easter Chicks🐣
We have been learning all about the life-cycle of the chick.
Check out our Cracking Good Eggs!
