Homework Update.
Hello Parents.
I sent all of the girls home with a sheet of ‘Tricky Words’ today. There are 72 words on the sheet. I would appreciate it if the children read these every night until we formally start Seesaw.
There are 6 columns so pace yourselves. Perhaps take one column a week and instruct the girls to write each word out 5 times, put them into sentences, say / cover and write them down, then check the spelling. You could give your child a quick spelling test on a Thursday evening.
Also, as we are doing Fractions in maths for the next couple of weeks it would be a great idea to count out 20 pasta shells for your child and store them in an airtight container. The children could work on calculating 1/2 of 2 up to 1/2 of 20. They can do this independently then tidy the shells away in the tub for another evening.
If you have a copybook at home ask your child to practise writing out the hundred square 1 – 100. I will send the children home with a hundred square tomorrow that they can keep at home at all times. Ask the girls to write out even numbers 2 – 100, odd numbers 1 – 99, multiples of 5 ie. 5, 10 , 15 , 20 etc and multiples of 10 ie. 10 , 20, 30 up to 100.
Have fun with it. There is no pressure on anyone.
Everyone is doing their best.
But most importantly, ‘Stay Safe’ and take each day at a time.

Fractions on a Friday !!!
Rang a haon did great work on the yard today. They drew illustrations to depict :
What is :
1/2 of 2 ?
1/2 of 4 ?
1/2 of 6 ?
1/2 of 8 ?
1/2 of 10 ?
Why not ask the children if they remember the answers.
ie.
1
2
3
4
5
Well done to all of the children for keeping up their reading homework at home.
Have a lovely weekend everyone. Miss Cunniffe. : )

Happy Midterm.
Hello everyone. Wishing you all a wonderful Hallowe’en break. Stay safe and take care. God bless. From Miss Cunniffe and all of First Class.

We had a go on the Seesaw !!! : )
Today Miss Cunniffe showed us how to use Seesaw on the whiteboard. We each saw our icon for our individual profiles for home learning. Each of the girls will receive their separate codes after the Hallowe’en break. For now, we just concentrated on our class home page and the variety of different ways we can post a response to an assignment, eg. a note, photograph, a video, or a picture. As we are all familiarising ourselves with this learning platform I’m sure we will all embark on an odyssey together.

As the children are doing reading homework these nights at home we posted our first homework response to a book.

Homework
Hello to all the lovely girls in First Class. I’m delighted to be back at school with you. For the month of October, your homework will be all about reading.
Take out any books that you have at home and see if you can sort them into ‘Fiction’ and ‘Non-fiction’ piles. Fiction books are stories that have been made up. Non-fiction books tell us facts.
Choose one book per day and find 10 minutes to sit down with Mum and Dad. Have a look at the cover. What does it tell you about the book? What characters do you think you might meet? What things might you learn? What would you like to learn?
If you can, read the book with Mum or Dad, or follow the story as they read it for you.
Afterwards, talk about your favourite parts of the story or share something you have learned.
Hint: If you have books in languages other than English, that’s okay too. Just have fun reading.
Fáilte ar ais rang a haon.
I would like to congratulate First Class for a fantasic first month. The girls have put great effort into their school work and into keeping everyone safe by following the new rules.
This week we have been learning about autumn and the girls had great fun making their own Leaf Men, which turned out great.

Welcome back Rang A Haon !
I would like to say a huge welcome back to First Class. I can’t believe our first week back in school is over. I have met some of the parents already and I am looking forward to getting to know the rest of you in the coming weeks.
We have a new girl in our class, Laura and all of the children are making sure she is settling in.
We are busy learning to count to 100, we are reading about the adventures of Mog the cat, we have started our new class reader, ‘Books, Books, Books’ and we have learned the names of the characters in our new Irish book’ Abair Liom’ : Tafaí, Lola, Seán, Oisín, Síofra, Mamaí, Daidaí, Mamó agus Daideo.
I would like to thank those of you who have sent in the 25 euro for Arts and Crafts . It is very much appreciated. I use it to buy paint, scissors, coloured card, Art resources and it goes towards photocopying such as the children’s coloured hundred square and busy bee books I make for the girls during the year.
Have a lovely weekend everyone and thank you for the great effort you are putting into the girls homework. It is very much appreciated.
