We have been busy in First Class!
This term, First Class has been busy, and we’ve had a fantastic time learning together! Here’s a little peek at what we’ve been up to:
We kicked off with Maths Week, where we explored numbers in creative and fun ways. The children enjoyed going on a maths trail, searching for shapes around the school, and even making their own “shape monsters”! It was a fantastic way to bring maths to life.
During Science Week, we had a trip to SETU for a bubbly science show that had everyone amazed. Back in class, we took the excitement further by experimenting with bubbles ourselves! The children were thrilled to learn more about how bubbles work, and we even wrote recounts of our visit to share our experiences.
We’ve had wonderful trips to Ferrybank Library, where we explored books and had fun discovering new stories. Plus, we had an incredible number of amazing entries from First Class in the school’s Halloween Talent Show — everyone did such a great job!
At the moment, we’re learning all about the Arctic. The children have become Arctic experts, so feel free to ask them to share all the fascinating things they’ve learned so far!

Hello everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful, and restful holiday season. Welcome back to Good Counsel for the start of Term 2.
We are looking forward to doing some wonderful work this Term. The children have started their ‘sounds’ copy. The first sound we are learning is ‘ng’. Also, the girls will be starting their first set of Tables and Spellings Tests in their Primary Career. Go n-éirí an t-ádh libh. Good Luck! : )
We are also starting a 10 week series of dancing lessons tomorrow. These will run every Tuesday for the next 10 weeks.
At some stage this term, I look forward to meeting all of you parents to discuss your child’s progress in First Class.
In the mean time , here is a little summary of a couple of things the children wrapped up last term.
1. They completed their GAA hurling training in the local community grounds with 2 students from WIT. We wish both students every success with the rest of their studies.
2. First Class completed their Narrative Writing on Jack and the Beanstalk. They presented their writing to Junior and Senior Infants. Both classes proved to be a very attentive audience.
Once again, welcome back Families. Please remember, to take your time these frosty mornings. No need to race / make a mad panic to school. Safety is crucial. Safe motoring and safe walking on the those pavements. Those icy patches can be deadly.
The Season of Advent is Here !!!
First Class have been busy indeed these last couple of weeks. The children did an excellent job in their Advent Special Assembly. They continue the tradition until they are in 6th Class. Each class take a special topic every year and present it to the school in the hálla.
Thank you also to all of the Mams and Dads for practicing the readings with the children and for dropping in Santa hats and Reindeer ears.
The season of Advent then continued with Mass in the parish Church on December the 08th.

We are learning about road safety. We are also enjoying our class novel – ‘The Hodgeheg’. Why not ask your daughter to tell you all about it. Max the hedgehog is looking for a safe place to cross the road. He is sick of hedgehogs getting knocked down by those ‘big monsters ‘ – ie. cars. He sees the humans crossing safely on a black and white thing and sets out on an adventure. However, Max has a ‘timpiste – accident’ and gets hit by a cyclist. As a result, he gets a bump on his head and is very confused. Instead of thinking he’s a hedgehog, he think he’s a hodgeheg.
The children are wearing their high vis jackets to school and we have two children keeping a checklist. The girls are hoping to earn a certificate and a high vis reflector wristband the week of the Christmas holidays. You can do it children !!!

We learned about Pop Artist Romero Britto.
Also, in November we think of all of the people up in Heaven.
Rhythm and Shakes
The girls have been really enjoying Rhythm and Shakes over the past three week. This is a music class, where they practice music from all over the world from West Africa to Samoa. They have had a chance to do drumming, play different instruments and sing different songs.
